Private maths tutoring
I commit to results.
Since 2012, I have tutored students all over the world: international schools, boarding schools such as Le Rosey, French lycées abroad and the leading schools in Paris. Top students aiming higher, and students who are struggling and want to catch up. From middle school to university level, for the IB as well as the French curriculum: mathematics first, physics and chemistry for those who need it.

780 in SAT Maths and an excellent application. As Greg says, hard work always pays off. Thank you again.
Greg has worked with Max since Year 10. At first it was just to bring his maths back up, and very quickly he took charge of everything: guidance, subject choices, the application... We never expected Louis-le-Grand, and yet Max starts there in September. We're still in shock.
We appreciate how straightforward, approachable and effective this teacher is with our daughter Geraldine at Lycée Condorcet. Real credentials and real results.
We started working with Greg in Year 11, mostly maths and physics. Back then EPFL was a goal but far from certain. He structured the work over two years: the subjects, the application, everything. The day I got the answer I could hardly believe it. Without him I wouldn't even have tried.

What parents tell me on the first call
The grades don't reflect the potential.
The grades are good, the ambition goes further.
A subject choice or a path to secure.
In all three cases, I start by finding what is really holding things back, then we set a measurable goal together. A rising grade is only the beginning.
At the start
A diagnosis
The first lesson is about understanding where the student loses marks. I look at their work and watch them solve problems.
The target
A measurable goal
Together with you, we set a grade, a deadline or an exam. That is the goal I commit to.
The lessons
Ahead of the class
I cover topics before the class does, so the student walks in having already seen them. I expect written work at the standard of the best schools.
Between lessons
Reachable between lessons
Your child can call me when a question can't wait for the next lesson, and you always know where things stand.
What I teach
Maths above all, physics and chemistry alongside
Mathematics
IB Maths AA and AI, at SL and HL. A-Levels. The French curriculum as the best lycées expect it, up to the advanced option. And a head start on university-level maths.
Physics and chemistry
The same standard as in maths, at the level expected by selective universities in France and abroad.
Prépas, competitions, olympiads
A head start on the French prépa syllabus for students aiming at Ginette, Louis-le-Grand or Henri-IV. Preparation for maths olympiads and the Concours général.
SAT and admissions tests
SAT, TMUA, entrance tests for international schools. My students' best SAT score: 790 out of 800 in maths, 1570 overall.
30% of my students live outside France. IB, A-Levels, American curriculum: I know how to move between systems, in both directions.
What is included
Support between lessons
By phone, when a question can't wait for the next lesson.
My archive of tests
Tests set by the most demanding schools, to practise on real papers.
Every curriculum
IB, A-Levels, American, French, and moving from one to another.
The leading Paris schools
EJM and the top lycées: I know their environment, their tests and their teachers.
Who will work with your child
Greg Mittelette
An engineer by training (École Centrale de Lyon), I first ran supply chains in aerospace. In 2012, I left that job to make mathematics my profession.
I taught for two years in Singapore and kept its method, which I apply with French rigour. I teach every lesson myself.
Outside maths: tennis (formerly ranked −2/6 in France) and jazz.
I don't just raise a grade: I build a path, from the first lesson to the final application.

My child is struggling in maths. Is this for them?
Yes, that is a large part of my work. I start by finding what is really blocking them, often an older topic never quite understood or a missing method, then we rebuild step by step. Max came to me in Year 10 with an average of 11/20 and little confidence; he finished at 17/20, then got into Louis-le-Grand.
What levels do you teach?
From middle school to the final year of high school, and on to a head start on university-level maths. IB, A-Levels, the American curriculum or the French one.
We live outside France. Is that possible?
Yes. 30% of my students live outside France.
My child already has good grades. Is it worth it?
It is one of the three reasons families call me. For a strong student, the point is to get ahead, to write at university standard, and to build a profile that opens the best doors.
How does it start?
Write me a few lines: the year, the school, the goal. I call you back for a free 20-minute first call: we take stock, and I suggest how we could work.
What do you charge?
I tell you on our first call, along with the pace I recommend for the goal.
Do you also help with university choices?
Yes. Once the grades are there, the question becomes: which doors should they open? I also guide applications to prépas and selective universities in the UK, the US and Switzerland. That is the work of Carmine Admission, which I founded.
